APOD: 2022 August 1 - Mountains of Dust in the Carina Nebula

Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the August 1st edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "Mountains of Dust in the Carina Nebula." Informally known as Mystic Mountain, this dust pillar in the Carina Nebula has been a regular APOD feature since 2015. This particular stellar nursery is three light years tall and lies only 7,500 light years from Earth. Do you see the horned beast at the pinnacle of the Mystic Mountain? There is probably a new star there, and the 'horns' indicate its directional axis of rotation. The horns themselves also have a name: Herbig-Haro objects.
