APOD: 2026 January 22 - LDN 1622: Dark Nebula in Orion

Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the January 22, 2026 edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD).
A 'dark nebula' is a type of interstellar cloud so dense that it obscures visible light from objects behind it. We are able to 'see' behind a dark nebula using a radio or infrared telescope, which are able to detect other sources of electromagnetic radiation that are not visible to the eye. And thus ends our reception to Lynd's Dark Nebula (LDN) 1622, aka The Boogeyman Nebula.
