If it gives even some notice of another Carrington event it will pay for itself many times over in lives and money. It might even provide the financial return on Investment that CERN has.

If this solar cycle produces a flare like the 1859 Carrington Event, we may face trillions in damages and year-long blackouts, experts say.

Heh. That'd be DSCOVR, parked at Lagrange point 1. This one will be will be able to do the near predictions and observations, though.
