*sigh* I wish people understood basic language terms and definitions. "Assault" is an ACTION (ie: verb), not an adjective. I can assault you with a thrown tomato. Doesn't make tomatoes dangerous if handled properly.
That being said, as a Paramedic, I've zipped more people into body bags due to impaired drivers than I ever have because of a firearm of any type. It amazes me no one is calling for the ban on assault Fords or assault Chevy.

Lt Col Charlie Brown - I won't even get into the topic of the number of fatalities caused by medical error. Last statistics show over 250000 PER YEAR die due to medical error. Firearms deaths (not including suicide; also includes self-defense and justified police action) were just slightly over 10000. Maybe we should be banning doctors and Paramedics as they clearly pose a much greater risk.

That’s because it’s not about reality and facts it’s about political power and doing whatever you have to do or saying whatever you have to say to get or keep it
If tomorrow morning the US awoke and 87.3% of Americans believed the moon was made of cheese
politicians would come out as either for or against cheese mining the moon.
Regardless of the fact they know the moon is not made of cheese

"Assault" is both a verb and an adjective. It's also a noun. There are other better arguments to use on this topic than that.
An assault rifle is an actual thing. It's a military rifle characterized by three things -- light weight, small caliber ammo, and select fire. An "assault weapon," on the other hand, is just a leftist construct, an invented term that basically means "scary looking black gun."

Oh our liberals, what they come up with. I like MSGT Holt's comment.
