I thought Dept of Commerce or Small Business Administration does the certification. I think that is required for gov contractors. Is this a different certification used for a different focus?

Great question, there is a lot of confusion in the marketplace.....first only the VA does a form of certification......they call it verfication.....but it is only valid if you want to do business with the VA......... the Dept of Commerce and the SBA DO NOT do any certification......the SBA has a economic qualification program (8A) but it is NOT a certification. The NVBDC was created to meet very specific and stringent guidelines established by America's leading corporations and we have done that. So yes this is a different certification than the VA's or the Federal Government in general. But, just to be clear, the NVBDC certification is so highly respected that two Federal agencies accept our certification. We have seven States and many local county and city governments pending. We will be making a huge announcement in mid-August that will move Veteran Owned Businesses to the same status as Minority and Women businesses currently have in the Corporate world. Get ready, certification is the new reality if you want to do business with America's Corporations.

Sounds great. Is there a cost two get this certification? I have a nonprofit that gives scholarships to national security workers...intelligence and military.

yes, our fee is based on your revenue.....but we can't certify a nonprofit since by law no one can "own" a nonprofit. We recommend that you go to our website for additional information: http://www.nvbdc.org
