I sure wish things were as simple as some seem to think.
We are not in the days of Thomas Paine or any other of our founders. They based their beliefs in a nation of 3 million people. We must address issues in a world of over 8 billion human beings. Human beings with all sorts of thoughts, opinions, and beliefs. And every one of them within their rights to have those thoughts, opinions, and beliefs.
As to our freedoms, that is determined by our support of our Constitution, but also by our government.
As I am so fond of saying:
We may have a government system that is filled with corruption, political bias, and inefficiency.
But it beats the hell out of whatever is in 2nd place!

It's the corruption that bothers me and trying to cover it up it with incompetence, inefficiency, delay, creating chaos, and passing the buck - all very good hiding places for corruption. Good ethics never go out of style, imho - they also do not seem to build wealth as fast as. and to the extent of corruption.<sigh>

SGT Mary G. - Corruption bothers me also. However, first I do not believe it is that widespread, second, it is always the "other" party, and third, in many cases the culprit gets re-elected anyway.
As I see it, the best means to improve the system is wide-spread voter involvement. Keep in mind, this has always been a "Grand Experiment." Only the people can make it better.
