My thoughts would be that as the Gen said, SF trains irregular and special operations units, this unit trains regular forces. I would argue that their linage came from the formalization of SF itself, but with a different scope of mission. As such, a nod towards the Green Berets we know and love is not out of order. I would suggest the color of the beret be far enough different so that you could tell the difference at a distance though. As for the look of the patch, again, the general shape is still different enough to not be mistaken, but again giving the nod to the SF community. This is assuming that troops assigned there will get something on the order of advanced Drill Sgt school, plus a high premium on language courses like the SF get, and not some average Joe off the lines. Training in multiple disciplines. Just my thoughts on this.
