We were on the Army West Point football practice field this week and had a chance to talk with Head Coach Jeff Monken about the start of summer training. We also talked with Junior Guard Mike Houghton from Arlington Heights, Illinois. Army goes into summer practice with a defense lead by two senior inside linebackers Jeremy Timpf from Tucson, AZ and Andrew King from Queens, NY. Army runs the option offense which depends on running speed and ball control by the quarterback. Both QBs had considerable playing time last year, junior Ahmad Bradshaw was the started until midseason injuries slowed his season. Sophomore Chris Carter was the QB who you saw play so well against Navy and threw the last pass on the game which if caught in the endzone would have given Army a win as a 20 point underdog. Ken Kraetzer - Would really like to see I improvment(s) in Coach Monken's product. I also hope that he's given enough time to do the job for which he was hired.

Mark, thank you for your comment. Just back from practice. Coach Monken has a plan, he is demanding, methodical and detail oriented. The defense should keep them in games with a strong linebacker corps. Both QBS now have experience and four freshman practiced today at the spot. Part of the problem is the top five conferences are pulling away from everyone in BCS. Army goes into season favored in only 2-3 games. I ll keep posting reports here if there is an interest.
