From what I’ve seen all reserve/guard commanders should be placed on active duty guard/reserve status for a year or two when in command. It’s just too much work for anyone in active duty let alone someone who works a civilian job for 40-50 hours a week and then also commands in the reserves/guard.

Yep. So not sure if the answer is every reserve/guard unit have a full time UA and 1st SGT or authorize more pay for commanders or what the answer is. Every year it seems the routine trainings expand and the off the clock work increases not just for command, but the average Joe, but the drill time and pay isn’t increasing to match it. If it was up to me MAJ (Join to see), I’ll have a unit admin and a E7 and an E5 AGR (all 3 of them) to run daily operations requiring little or no guidance from the command team. Stuff requiring Cdr’s/1SG’s direct action, they ought to do 75% of the task before the aforementioned show up. Therefore minimizing their off drill pretense. I guess USAREC/NG Beaurau forgot that their troops, for the most part, depend of a civilian job to put food on their tables and a roof on top of their family members!!!!

I could tell them that years ago!

On my 1st company command it got to the point I had to tell my boss that of the many tasks given which ones he wanted me to let fall they the cracks, otherwise I’ll chose on my convenience! Quite a few didn’t see the light of the day!!!!!

Yeap Maj Kim Patterson!

Sometimes folks want to make others happy without measuring consecuences. In this case how it would impact unit’s performance or its morale.

As an RA captain I had a command in 1990 and I can say that it has always been that way. I had the same conversation with my commander/rater about which tasks should I do and which tasks I should let fall. Of course, I got the standard answer which was, you can't drop any of the balls. So, I made sure my helicopters where well maintained and my people were healthy and happy. Those were my priorities.
