The expectation that our military may hold opinions and voice them under specific circumstances is valid, however, those circumstances do not include giving the impression the individual is placing his/her beliefs above national policy. While each of us has the responsibility to weigh orders under the light of the law, the military can not give the impression its support of the government policies is dependent upon those policies being consistent with their own opinions. If an officer can not philosophically support an order based upon their belief the order is illegal, the appropriate path is resignation from a position and pursuit through the legal path
