Lots of people who likely should have gotten that award did not. Time to review them

The awards standards for the military are grossly lacking, and if you didn't come from the proper background, forget about it. DOD should be ashamed.

The Department of Defense was looking for me beginning in the late 60's. A couple of MP's even came to my parent's house and my father sent them away. He told me about it in the mid 90's. Finally, in 2015, a letter was delivered to an address I still owned and the tenant made certain I got it. So, 48 years it took and through no fault of the Army. But, sometimes it's the unwillingness of the populous to cooperate.

I've seen it in the Army, and heard it from Black solders out of Vietnam.
I've save a life, and was told by the battalion commander in the field that he would recommend a medal for what I did.
And, then I was told by a Black solder, that I wouldn't get it, due to the color of my skin. Did I get the medal, No, but at least the battalion commander did say that I did a good job, and most of all, "I saved a life".
And, to me now knowing, I believe the solder didn't save lives of other solders in the field because of a medal, but, saved lives because he cared.
Solders do it all the time, no matter in what war, conflict or event in their life.
One man's medal is, the Caring, Loving and Thought of another's life.
