Next year when I am retired, i think ill buy some 1970 era jungle greens, throw some shinny silver oakleaves and cross rifles on and sport my green jungle boots (which are my originals BTW) maybe even grow a beard... Then go about my business and wait for some over zealous former 1 enlistment Specialist to try to call me out.

I am with you Sir. I have never wore my uniform since I retire three years ago and have no desire too. We have way too many over zealous INDIVIDUALS that thank things upon themselves to act like the police. Obviously this guy is wrong but you make it worse by acting like a bigger JERK.....It would have been nice to be the better person and just let it go and we as a nation have bigger issues at stake like the natural disasters plaguging our great nation.... No to sound off or intend to be disrespectful.....

I'm tempted to get some old desert BDU's with a desert booney cap and jungle boots and wander around in public waiting for some YouTube idiot to call me out. I think I would carry my own video camera and a pocket folder with my VHIC card, DD214, Gulf War photos, etc.

Maybe to really spruce it up, I would pin my full size medals on in the wrong order.

A related anecdote: when we deployed in August of 1990, desert boots didn't yet exist, so we were issued jungle boots. We were forever dumping the fine sand/dust out of our boots until one of us figured out how to plug the drains with wax. We were only issued 2 desert BDU's. By the end, our uniforms were kind of ragged around the edges from 7 months in the desert and infrequent hand washing with bottled water and dish soap. At Khobar Towers, right before we redeployed, we were issued new uniforms with desert boots that we wore on the plane home.

After 38 (24 active, 14 Reserve) years in the military , the last thing I want to wear is a uniform. Especially the ones I wore while on duty in the past. Anywhere.

Wearing something from how many years ago? I have some of the old woodland BDUs to hunt in, much cheaper than store bought camo. I don't see how anyone could say he was posing. They should have just sent him to the manager for him to deal with. He probably could have gotten a Sr. discount easier that if he was a vet. I still have my green utilities from '70 - '72, I wore them for hunting later too, they are in the attic now. I have jungles for friends that had extra after leaving Vietnam and we were in Iwakuni, Japan. I wear a pressed jungle blouse with jeans on occasion too, but I'm not trying to pose as anything but an old fart wearing memories. Most of these folks at stores counldn't tell if you are a Marine of Boy Scout. We need vet IDs for everyone that is eligible.

San Antonio is a great community. I pull out my "blue card mafia" membership card every chance I get.

Home Depot checks ID’s for the military discount. This guy is more like dressing up for Halloween.

I've been to Home Depot, and they always ask me for proof. I have Veteran on my driver's license. I also carry life membership cards for VFW and Vietnam Veterans of America. You can't get these unless you have submitted a copy of your DD214. I wear a baseball cap with US Army with a MACV and POW/MIA pin on it.
