Army to begin transitioning EW personnel to cyber in January

The whole Cyber conversion is baffling to me. Yes, the Cyber Domain is important, but wow, I would assume that there is a lot more to Electronic Warfare and Signals Intelligence than Cyber. I also wonder if this won't end up creating an unintended stovepiping of physical and intellectual resources away from the battlefield/tactical level and into a strategic/staff level.

Apropos of nothing, I'm reminded of a conversation I had with a fighter pilot, I picked up after he landed with an Inflight Emergency, during Desert Storm. He was on a mission over Kuwait when his aircraft had a systems failure. Soon after declaring the IFE, an unknown voice came over the radio, gave his call sign, and told him that a sortie of MIGs had just taken off from a nearby airfield and he had x minutes before they arrived. When he asked who it was on the radio, the response was "does it matter, just get the hell out of there". The warning didn't come from an AWACs or an RJ because they would have had callsigns. Intelligence comes from strange places.
