Something similar to this happened in the late 90s after I left company command (1996 or later) at Fort Hood.
It was night vision devices (NODs), but I'm not sure of the exact nomenclature. I don't recall who stole them, probably the supply sergeant, but the command had inventoried the cases, and not checked the cases for the contents.
They were tracked to a dealer in Louisiana.
Same stuff, different century. Folks never learn.

And why hasn't the Fort Hood shooter faced a firing squad yet???
