Hmmm...why is it that the people who get so upset about improving interactions with Cuba seem to have no problem with the US and its largest companies setting up shop in communist China? Why for all these years could Americans travel to China, do business with China, and buy boatloads of Chinese goods, produced by the largest communist country on earth. The Chinese government oppresses billions of people, but no one seems to object to Apple building their Iphones there. Yet try and buy a Cuban cigar, and you're supporting a commie regime!
The embargo has been going on since Kennedy was in office. LOL at people thinking it just needs more time to work. 50 years is enough. We're kidding ourselves if we think it's all going to change when Castro dies. Look how great that plan worked in North Korea. We're on to the grandson now and still no change in sight.

The embargo is the biggest farce since hillary's honesty. It has always been one sided as all our allies have been vacationing in Cuba, doing business with Cuba and so on, you get the picture.
I could not agree more on the hypocrisy which goes on worldwide with China and other dictatorships.
My beef deals with the best country on earth reestablishing relations with the castro regime and yet not demanding an iota from them, as everything the castros do, it is a one way street. Repression has intensified and human rights abuse is five fold what it used to be before relations. Those are figures from organizations concerned with what happens in the island. I also have relatives who confirm that the situation is much worse.
A golden opportunity was wasted by this administration and what makes it interesting is that it happened just as venezuela (Cuban Colony) dried up and went belly up as it could not supply its mother country with zillions of barrels of oil anymore. the castros are experts at milking the cows, ie. the former soviet union, venezuela and so on.
At the precise moment, obama steps in and makes it all good for the longest existing dictatorship on the western Hemisphere, there is only one winner here, the castro government, which by the way you are spot on as their sons and grandsons are already in key positions to carry on, and all business are owned by the cuban armed forces.
Great talking to you LTC Mathews, we dont agree on much but it is always an interesting, stimulating conversation.
