Leadership must demonstrate over and over that they are there, they are listening and they are taking appropriate action, otherwise this is all a waste of time and energy

Lt Col Charlie Brown And look what happened at Fort Hood, the home and birthplace of the SAMC/SAMA (Sergeant Audie Murphy Club/Sergeant Audie Murphy Award). And the SAMC/SAMA has been an expanding affair for the past 37 years. It is so ubiquitous that I could almost guarantee that the senior NCO's were/are members. It is very obvious to me that they have failed in their primary mission - welfare and support for the soldier.
It is also a massive indictment of the Army's B.O.S.S. program.
"The BOSS program also serves as a tool to address many of the issues and concerns that our Army faces today. The program gives the Army the ability to tackle tough issues through peer to peer leadership. Single Soldiers assist the chain of command in dealing with suicide prevention, sexual assault and sexual harassment issues that single Soldiers living in barracks might experience."

"If soldiers really know and care about each other, the service’s thinking goes, they won’t stand by while another soldier gets sexually harassed; they’ll speak up if they see or hear racism; they’ll be there for one another, which will (ideally) lessen the risk of suicide."
How is this gonna make people care more? It won't. The issue is toxic leadership with suicide. The issue with SA and SH is sexual predators don't care about "their squad."
We are never gonna stop SH or SA. Ever. It's been part of our species probably as long as we have existed. You'll always have predators. Sadly you can't screen them if they've never been caught before. We could get more caught IF people were real leaders and let soldiers know they are safe to report it.
Also they better be issuing smart phones because I'm not putting that on my phone.

So we are encouraging leading through digital means?
As far as sponsorship goes, we already have a system, but it's too difficult to use. Addi g another metric isn't going to change anything.

And why is the sponsorship program too difficult to use? Would it be because too many people did not want to do the simple thing and stand by it. Didn't the Ranger Regiment have a good and not to difficult to use sponsorship program?

SSG Robert Webster The problem with the current sponsorship program is that commanders chase that green block. So it isnt done properly. Incoming SMs should be assigned to a company that sponsors them and fill out paperwork. If a Bn chases the green, they hold sponsorship at the bn level and no contact is made between sponsor and SM.

I remember when my sponsor picked me up at my very 1st duty station; just a few moons ago. The 1st things coming out of his mouth: "Shit's F**cked up at the unit but we always make it work, welcome to the E Co!" From that point on PFC FUBAR was a poster child for what a unit sponsor ought to be. From the FT, Benning Replacement Company, to BN S1, BN CSM (yes, the SoB bee bopped to the BN CSM's office like he owned the place just to introduce me - it paid dividends months after), Company HQs, and finally to the working place; and everything and anything between. As I took command later in my life, that was something I made sure to emphasize during my tenure.
