Enjoyed a talk at the Navy League of the United States dinner in NYC with author Jim Hornfischer who received the Commodore John Barry Book Award for his new title: "The Fleet at Flood Tide, America at Total War in the Pacific 1944-45". Many will remember the first book of this Colgate University alumnus, "The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors" which told the story of the US destroyers which stood up to a line of Japanese battleships at the Battle of Leyte Gulf in 1944. James credits his law study at The University of Texas at Austin for sharpening his research skills enabling him to complete these in depth historical studies of WWII. In our talks he describes his attempt to describes the "Moments" when key decisions needed to be made.
