Is there anything left of the original B-52, other than the name?

Few aircraft have had as long or storied a career as the B-52, which first joined the United States Air Force in the 1950s, and has continued its role as a heavy bomber ever since.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen That’s what we do with submarine overhauls. Very seldom is wiring and cables get removed or replaced. It would seem to be a problem with airframes due to added weight over the years.

MCPO Roger Collins I can only speak to the B-52H which is the only one still flying anyhow. It has more thrust than it needs so added weight is no big deal. Center of gravity is a bigger deal which I've been told is part of the logic of leaving the old wiring. Easier to recalculate CG based on what's added than to have to go back and recalculate a whole new CG. I know from my FB-111 days that they also left most of the cables when the aircraft went to depot for mods, so guess its common practice. Obviously I'm no engineer, so can only tell you what I've been told.

Brought back some memories for sure, have even flown a couple of them in the photos. Lots of changes since I last flew one in 1975, but the basics are still the same. Thanks
