The development of the infantry fighting variant of the Enigma appears to be falling behind schedule.
Patria announced in January that the UAE had ordered its AMV 8x8 armoured vehicle, which was widely considered to be the front runner in the Emirati competition before the locally developed Enigma was unveiled.
The order placed with Patria appeared to be far smaller than the UAE's expected requirement for about 600 8x8 armoured vehicles. Sources at the Polish company Rosomak SA, which licence-builds AMVs for the Polish armed forces, told IHS Jane's that Patria awarded it a contract to build 40 AMV hulls for the UAE with an option for another 50 hulls.
The trails of the AU-220M turret also appear to have been pushed back. UVZ CEO Oleg Sienko said in an interview published by Rossiyskaya Gazeta on 24 September 2015 that the turret was expected to undergo trials in the UAE in 2016. However, on 28 March the TASS news agency cited Igor Kulikov, another senior UVZ official as saying the trails would begin in 2017.
