Never worship heroes. Give them the respect they deserve but don't expect them to be superhuman. Thus, I was disappointed when the Bushes, including Barbara Bush, continued to be disrespectful of the President even after the election was decided and he was inaugurated. This final act of disrespect, precluding President Trump from joining the mourners at her funeral cannot be undone. They can't dig her up and have an encore performance. Thus, this blot will remain on her and her family's legacy forever. Sad

My reading of it is that Trump decided not to attend to avoid adding security hassle. I didn't take away that he wasn't invited, though nothing was said either way.

IMV Trump recognized that he isn't beloved by the Bushes ... and wasn't by Barbara Bush ... and that his presence would be a burden and unwelcome. He sent his class act spouse to represent him. I give him credit for good thinking ... and consideration of the Bushes.

I think Trump did the honorable thing in staying away because the media would have just turned the funeral into a political sham like they are doing now.

I watched most of the funeral, and for a moment wondered about the absence of POTUS and also the Carters. I briefly wondered who wasn't invited or was and declined. After that I just enjoyed the tribute to her and forgot about politics for awhile. Other than the legislation that affects us all, that is becoming easier every day.
