Back in 91 when Bush gave the go ahead for our forces to kick Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait at Barksdale AFB we launched our B52s they were loaded to the teeth with with ALCMS (Air Launched Cruise Missiles). We launched the morning before everyone else got the Go signal. They flew across the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and part way across the Red Sea, launched their payloads, turned back and landed in Spain.
We have and can exert Global Power, however, forward based attachments like this would reduce reaction time so are valuable to overall national security.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - I heard and read that the 111's are still flying on missions.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - Some where I read that the 111 was used in Afghanistan, my mistake.

Lt Col Charlie Brown I remember when Carswell AFB was part of the Strategic Air Command (STRATCOM?) I used to see these take off and land all the time

When SAC was at Anderson AFB in the day, at the front gate there was a big SAC painted patch.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - Not only do they not know what SAC was, but as an entity what it truly was...a cult run by zealots.
I was never SACumcised only USAFE, MAC and ATC (a few more probably not known)

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - If I am not mistaken, and it has been a long time since I have been there, but I believe Giffiss AFB had one of those patches at the gates! But I can't remember what Stewart, England, or Barksdale AFB had at their gates.
