It was several years ago that my wife and I toured Yorktown.
IIRC, a docent described a night assault on one of the redoubts, possibly the attack commanded by Hamilton.

The docent told us the redoubt was manned by German mercenaries in service to the British. The American force was likewise German mercenaries. The engagement was a massive confusion (the clusterf--k is a long-standing military tradition) with both sides yelling orders in German in the darkness.

If you can get to Virginia to visit Jamestown and Yorktown, it's definitely worth it.

Amen to that, Colonel. The "triangle" of Williamsburg/Jamestown/Yorktown is a national treasure.
So far, I've only gotten my grandchildren down there for a few days (their parents love to take them to Disneyland, and the kids love it as well).
There was an archaeological dig going on in Williamsburg that kids were allowed to participate in. My grandson dug up a 17th century pipe bowl. Two years later he still talks about his discovery.
P S --- Show proof of your veteran status for a discount on tickets, and be sure to visit the Liberty Lounge for vets in Williamsburg. Always good to share a coffee with other vets.
