We were discussing that this weekend, seems like all that Hollywood is doing is remakes of old stuff. I guess their kids need jobs but come on guys, don't they have any imagination?

They do seem to be in a rehash phase and all, but in this particular case... I mean, I don't know how much you could really call the original Baywatch as "serious", but this movie looks more like the National Lampoon's version of it.

LT Brad McInnis If not for remakes, reboots, and sequels, there would be no movies in theaters. Even the "originals" that are coming out are often based on novels or some other form of media (Assassin's Creed, World of Warcraft). No imagine required there, take the story that was already created and condense or expand it to fill a two hour run time.

PO3 Steven Sherrill I have no problem with making a movie out of a book, but when you take an old movie and reshoot it with basically the same lines and new faces... then want me to pay good money for it. For kids today it's new, for some of us, we are remembering that whoever was much better in that role than mr or ms newbie.

LTC (Join to see) - I think in the case of books it depends. If it is the wrong book, or the conversion is not done right, then it can be very bad. If the screenplay is well written, the actors cast in the role match the book descriptions mostly, and they stay true to the source material, then it can be good. I hate when they take out major plot lines. Jaws is a great movie, but it would have been better had the mob influence not been removed. The mob influence gives reason for the beaches to stay open, and for people to keep being eaten. Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit contrast this perfectly. Same director, two very different series. Lord of the rings was good. The hobbit was moments of good surrounded by filler. As for reshooting scene for scene, the only way it could be done well is if the original actors were bad in the film. HBO I think did a great job with west world. They didn't try to make a remake shot for shot of the original film. They took the ideas from the original film, added modern technology, a good story line, and compelling characters. They did not try to replace Yule Brenner as the gunman. I enjoy both the old movie, and the series. Then again HBO didn't make it a movie, they made it a series. The remake of The Shining, had no chance. I liked Stephen Webber in Wings and even in NCIS New Orleans, but he could never replace Jack Nicholson.

Hollyweird is done, and has been for a while now. All they do is remake the same movies. For example, how many Spider Man movies have there been? How many Batman movies have there been? It's just directors who think they have a better take on the same subjects. The only really interesting stuff out there, IMHO, are the Marvel movies (ie, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc.)
A serious thumbs-down for the Star Trek reboot movies; they suck and have ruined the franchise.
