CPT (Join to see) another excellent article. Leading paratroopers out the door is one of the best examples of what leadership sums down to: "Leadership is action, not position." Being a leader is a lifestyle that extends well beyond the rank structure the Army gives us or the civilian environment equivalent.
Leaders should always readily demonstrate their ability and desire to lead by the front and by example , to be there when the going gets tough and where the flesh meets the metal, and that applies to everything not just combat.
As leaders progress through the ranks it is easier to get sidetracked by the added responsibilities entrusted upon you, but the fact remains that the best leaders the ones that can inspire loyalty and results are the ones that are always first out of the plane.

By the way, can anyone explain how this " leading from behind" originated? I'll admit I'm " old school" but if this leadership trait has been allowed to exist since 1986, shame on the "wuss" who controls the content taught at the service academies, as well as ROTC, Officer and Enlisted.

Good article and on point... Just one observation for your consideration. Jumpmasters are typically leaders but obviously don't exit the aircraft (Jump) first... Nonetheless, I understand the analogy and enjoyed reading the article.
