Sad to say this video isn't exaggerating. Some commands have their leaders hands tied because they are so worried about getting IG complaints. If you treat the Soldiers like they need to ride the little yellow bus then they will act like they do.

Treating soldiers with dignity and respect is not soldiers who ride the short bus that is a uneducated way to of justifying the behavior that is not necessary. Soldiers would not need to go to IG if they were not treated poorly by leaders who are in charge of them. When you justify how we should be treating soldiers badly to be a soldier is why there have been changes to the way you should be doing things. If a teacher was to treat there student in this manner we all know that this would be inappropriate so why is appropriate for military leaders to do it to their soldiers? It is not about hurting feelings of soldiers it is about dignity and respect and acting as a leader they should follow. My opinion.

The military is not a daycare. As NCO's we should not have to make sure they are up in the morning for PT. We should not have to make sure they shave and take a shower everyday. If a Soldier does something stupid we should be allowed to say so. We treat them with kid gloves and then we wonder why the quality of Soldiers has vastly declined in the past ten years. Soldiers and leaders need to earn respect. These are grown men and women not high school kids. This is a career that can put you in harms way and you have to trust the Soldier next to you. If you can't take being called a dumb ass for getting a DUI or other stupid things then you shouldn't be in the service.

I love those videos. I know that every generation feels that the one after them is softer and gentler. However, I could still se it in the eyes of some of the older Marines. They wanted to break you, but the best they could do is play mind games and cut libo short.

So continual mind games against a soldier is going to do what to make them a better soldier? Then what about the repercussions of this continual mind game against a soldier? Just because it has been done before does not mean it was the best way to do things. This is not give you an edge for being a solid soldier. My opinion.

The new recruits should just suck it up, take the abuse, and man up. Quit being little mama's boys.

Telling someone to suck it up as you abuse them is not a leader. Being a Bully and abusing someone because you can is wrong. If you spend your days being abusive to your soldiers and then go home what do you think you are going to do with your family. Just because it has been done before does not make it right or that we should keep doing it. It has nothing to do with being soft or mama's boy it is common dignity. We wonder why society get to a point to where they are violent to others and many lives are taken for a senseless reason. You can have endurance and agility with respect and dignity. Its not take an educated person to understand that abuse to another is not the norm so why are we trying to keep encouraging it? I do think leadership is a dynamic role and we need to focus on effective ways to do these things however not in a fashion that is wrong. To be abusive to another soldier I would have to question my moral standing and is this really making me a better person to do this action and we all know it does not make you better for doing it. Just a thought.

SPC Rosina Thomas - The abuse that some recruits claim is happening is the DI making do PT that calls for more moving then some of them probably did at home, and if they don't like having someone in their face they shouldn't have joined the military. Their mother isn't going to be with them if and when they go into combat.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth - Okay and again you can motivate someone without abusive behavior or derogatory comments and just because you do this does not mean this will make them a better soldier for combat. Plus to be in the military when you swear in it does not say allow your superiors to mistreat you and degrade you as part of the military life. Just because the Good Ole Boys System of treating a soldier with less rank then you poorly has been done does not make it right. Again as a Leader you should be able to motivate others without that behavior. So it does not matter if you are saying its for their own good in regards to PT, work, or whatever that is not of Good moral character to act towards others you are leading in this fashion. My opinion.

SPC Rosina Thomas - I concur you can, but during combat, which 95% of my DI saw in Viet Nam, you can't be soft or your history. Staying alive is one of the things your taught in BCT. You have to grow a thick skin and learn.
