While I certainly detest those who prey upon others and sympathize/support those who have been victimized, there is another group of people whom I detest just as much, perhaps even more so:

Those who ride on the coattails of people who have honestly been victims of such heinous acts, or those who flat out lie about it.

These people tear down the credibility of those who have suffered and make it more difficult than it should be for them to get help, as well as damage/destroy those they falsely accuse.

While many of us hope predators who commit such acts will burn in Hell, I, for one, hope Hell has a special place for those who lie about having been a victim.

Let me preface this by saying that anyone that preys on others, are scum. I can completely understand how vulnerable someone would be to come forward with something like this. My problem, though, is with some of these actresses and Congresswomen, that have come out and joined the movement. If you have been a top earning actress, or a serving Congressperson for 10 years after an assault (arbitrary number BTW), I feel you have a duty to say something for the sole reason that your continued silence means that other women with much less power are being abused. My 2 cents, and I understand that everyone is different, I just have a hard time not standing up for innocents...

SGT Victoria Belbusti When struggling with ones own feelings, how does one justify their silence when dozens are preyed upon by the same predators? They could have put a stop to it long ago. Courage is required from all free citizens to protect all citizens. When your feelings matter more than someone else's, it's selfish, not courageous.

SGT Victoria Belbusti - I agree that it is a personal struggle. I never said famous, I said power. I find it hypocritical that these same people blast everyone else and their brother for not protecting women, and yet for years they had power and didn't say anything. Not saying anything when you have the power to say something to protect innocent younger women with no power, is cowardly in my mind.

I get your thinking but it’s still not their responsibility. If there wasn’t such a victimstance and weak stigma associated with sexual assault i don’t think it would be a question for a woman in a male dominated occupation to step up. However, on RallyPoint I read another post criticizing women in politics for speaking up about their sexual assault only to get political gain. They were “jumping on the bandwagon” as the post put. so they are viewed as weak if they speak up immediately and now opportunistic? It’s disgusting.

SGT Victoria Belbusti - I agree that in today's hyper-everything world things that shouldn't be, get used to support or denigrate people and positions. I just tend to look at right and wrong. For example, if I see a 300 lb guy beating up a little old woman, well, I am going to get involved and let the 300lb guy beat me up instead! :) That is the same way I feel about someone in power abusing their position to assault someone else. Maybe it is because I have done so many human trafficking interdictions in the Navy, I don't know. Probably projecting... You are right in that it isn't their "responsibility" to report, but isn't there an element in their thinking that they don't want this to happen to others, especially since it is such a horrible, traumatic event? That is the part I have trouble with... Great conversation with you on this, hope you have a great day!
