When I was out-processing in 2008, 6 months prior to separation was the recommended time to contact one of the Veterans Service Organizations [VSOs] to start the application process to VBA for disability coverage and benefits SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
I highly recommend that any service member schooled to leave the service contact a VSO no later than 6 months out to start the process because the VBA tends to be slow and they need as much tie as you can give them to process the paperwork.

We'll see how this goes, I have my claim in under this program. I also had my SHPE done with the VA.

Yes it briefs well sounds good, and has good intentions. I started mine at 180 days out(to the day), and trying to navigate Ebenifits and Blue Button (when they want to work) has been a royal pain in the 4th point of contact to try and get any status update.
