I don't see any way this ends without a major World War. Putin cannot back down and stay in power, he bet the farm here. Also, Russia cannot survive Economically more than 2-3 years of these sanctions if they hold firm on them. Putin stated already that if backed into a corner and with Russias survival at stake he would not hesitate to use Nukes against the West. We'll know in about 2-3 years if he meant what he said.
