Why am I not surprised. Then again I am also not surprised at the information if true. I'm no military expert, and certainly no Army expert, but every scenario I have ever seen whether a declassified document, or a novel written by or with retired military types have predicted that a NATO/Russia conflict would be brutal, and at least initially, fast moving, and would consume huge quantities of equipment and munitions. In fact as this conflict was initially unrolling, I was struck by how uncannily accurate some of the writers like Dale Brown had been in their novels. Yea, this ain't NATO per se, but it's pretty damn close.

The issue with me is that this has to be one of the most avoidable conflicts in history. We continued to expand NATO after the very reason for the alliance was gone, then just ignored Russian concerns about the direction of the additions. Even after some pretty extensive cooperation in the wake of 9/11, a large portion of the US government still wanted to demonize the Russian State an particularly Putin. Now I am under no illusions about Putin being some Russian saint, but it was abundantly clear that Ukraine was the red line and we went out of our way to provoke this confrontation. I think the confession by Western officials that they had no intentions of standing by the Minsk Agreement after they signed it is pretty telling.

Trump told Philippines' Duterte the US Navy had 2 'nuclear submarines' near North Korea
As a matter of national security, only the captains and crew of the nuclear-armed submarines know for sure where they are.
