We definitely need to add a Topic for "Field Expedients". I don't know about the Air Force, but I bet every other branch, especially the Infantry, could fill books with examples of them, such as using dog tag chains to replace rusted links in the mechanism of typewriters that advanced ribbons. Or folding a tent around a jeep to float it across a river. Or etc, etc, etc. Even simple ones like these uses for binder clips fascinate me...
