It is very popular today to shout "Equality!" from every roof top and street corner. I hear very few shouting "Liberty!" these days. I do not claim that Liberty and Equality are one the opposite ends of a teeter-totter, and that when one goes up, he other must go down. But, the two are linked in a negative correlation because, given individual liberty, some people use their talents and become powerful billionaires and others lack the talents or do not employ them, and end up begging the streets or the government...leaving the two "unequal." That is why all government can do, is enable Equality of Opportunity; because otherwise, to begin to control Equality of Result, it must restrict Liberty all the way to the Gulag. I recommend reading Isaiah Berlin's “Four Essays on Liberty.” Notice how there is a Topic below for "Equality" yet none for "Liberty"?
