I was stationed near here for a few years, and the area more resembles the South than the west coast. My team and I volunteered at the local elementary school, teaching fitness and mentoring. We noticed that some children had large holes in their shoes. We got a list of underprivileged kids from the school, gathered up money, and haggled with a local shoe store. Every kid deserves the chance to grow up without worrying about surviving.
