Are they defending his actions so many years ago? I think not. Are they defending the man who he became? Most likely. Should I hold every sin you've ever made against you for the rest of your life? I'm sure you will come up with an excuse that you were young and didn't know any better or it was "different". God is the ultimate judge, who am I to say that he condones one sin more than another?
Being a Christian does not make us above sin. We are not perfect and will never be perfect, we are human. Maybe he should have been punished more harshly WHEN IT OCCURRED. He was a YOUNG teenager when this happened, but now when he's grown up and apologized countless times for his actions we have to punish him again?
Raise your hand if you did something stupid as a teenager. Keep your hand up if you think you should be punished again and again for those things every time someone new learns about it.

Technically his son isn't a child molester. "Child molestation is a crime involving a range of indecent or sexual activities between an ADULT and a child, usually under the age of 14." Child on child sexual contact is not 'child' molestation.
"The National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect defines child sexual assault as: "Contacts or interactions between a child and an ADULT when the child is being used for sexual stimulation of the perpetrator or another person when the perpetrator or another person is in a position of power or control over the victim."
The actual crime committed is normally handled CONFIDENTALLY through the juvenile justice system, and in many states these children get rehabilitation for behavior issues and are not charged criminally as both the aggravator and victim are under the age of consent. If this was properly reported and he was charged, this information would likely be sealed in a CONFIDENTAL juvenile record. Studies have shown that minor on minor sexual abuse DOES NOT reoccur over 95% of the time.
So we put it on the front headlines on the news, and further destroy the lives of all those involved. Josh Duggar has already hired a body guard, and I can only imagine the amount of threats he and his family have received (probably to include the victims). Congratulations America, your perverted sense of justice has people hiding in their homes afraid of being harmed by some vigilante who thinks that this crime deserves punishment exceeding what the justice system legally allows.
IF YOU SERIOUSLY WANT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT USE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE, AND VOTE FOR THE LAWS TO CHANGE. We are better than a medieval style justice system.

Well, SGT I definitely agree with you now that I see the technicals on the matter. And it is unfortunate that the media is fueled off the sense of comeuppance that many find satisfying to see in society, often no matter the cost of the individuals involved.

This app is terribly annoying. Now I know why I minimize how much I use it. I thought that pic was the lead off for the conversation. Not a response. I cannot remove a comment either now that I figured it out. Sorry, SFC Mark Mar Merino. I voted up to try and lessen the blow of my thumbs down. I will now go back to ignoring this app until it is improved and easier to navigate.

I have to assume that, based on your question, you are not a Christian. The young man in question is a repentant sinner who has asked forgiveness from God and those he sinned against. He's done what God asks us to do when we sin, ask forgiveness and strive to sin no more even though we will always fall short. The author of the article isn't saying we all want to be child molesters; when he talks of "indulging the flesh", he's talking about our sinful nature to want to indulge in things that are bad for us like drinking too much or eating too much or looking at pornography or other indulgences that we allow because we are human and "the flesh is weak". I think the Duggars and their son handled this well and the article was on point. What I don't understand is why you are coming down so hard on "Christians"?

MAJ Carl Ballinger so what you're saying is that you don't believe the police report that accounts for what happened, the one that the accusations which Josh Duggar actually admitted to himself... the report that is what all of this story is based on and how it all actually started... you don't believe this report we are talking about is real? I just want to be clear.

I honestly can't determine whether you're joking or not. You keep referring to an article when I can't be more clear that it's a police report. But I think I've made my point. If not to you then someone else who might be misinformed.

I would turn my kid in an instant. If my teen was inappropriately touching young children I would not hesitate to call the police. That is why people are coming down so hard on "Christians." Even though most people aren't coming down hard on all Christians, just the Duggars, and those defending them. Why is this case okay because he asked for forgiveness? But in other cases asking for forgiveness isn't? If he raped them, or murdered them, but was really sorry would it be okay then?
SN Figueras, Atheist's are not Satanist's. Atheists don't believe in Satan either, just like neither you or they don't believe in Vishnu, Ra, Odin, or Zeus.
CPO R, quit while you are way ahead, you will only end up arguing in circles.

WO1 (Join to see) agreed. But again, unless the police report is wrong, they didn't turn him in. Look at the report. A person found a letter in a book that they borrowed that detailed the abuse... then that person wrote Oprah Winfrey a letter and called a hotline to report it, then the police called them in for an interview and this is how it all came to be.
