That is unusual, certainly....

Bravo! When I was a small kid, there was a big fire in the next apartment building. My mother was busy brewing coffee and serving it to fire fighters for hours.
In that respect I became like her. Helping her as a child and teen, caring for Marines as a Corpsman in my teens and early twenties, too busy with my son and work usually to volunteer in my 30's, and later progressively more active again. Now retired but in my second year abroad mostly in a volunteer capacity.
