"Canadian Indians are often considered second-class citizens until now." There are still WASP persons of distrust and dislike, but the vastly, overriding and official feelings are of those of inclusion. I'd changed that 'are" to "were."

We are leaving in a few weeks to California for a brief vacation and my official promotion ceremony. She will not get any racist remarks from anyone because everyone assumes she is Hispanic or Mexican.

Drawing attention to the abuse and victimization Aboriginal women face as a result of negative stereotypes in Canadian culture. Activism project for Women's ...
This video came out a couple years ago made by Aboriginal students at the University. This is just a small example of what actually happens. It seems like the young people are understanding its people who are 50 plus were racist because that's what their parents told them to think.

My wife has a friend that is Micmac. She has a English sounding last name. She submits her resume and they want her to go to a job interview online. When she gets to the job location, they tell her the job is taken because she is native. My wife has a last name of Buffalo but because she was native in the oil fields, she had to be the swamper or co-driver while the unlicensed driver was a white guy driving the truck making more money than she was. The racism is so bad that natives even have their own trucking companies now. It's a sad reality but racism is Alive and Well in many parts of Canada. My wife goes to British Columbia and it's a different story. You will have complete integration of people but here in Alberta, and other places especially Saskatchewan, you can forget it! Net is means Half Breed in French. I met this man last Sunday night and he is a friend of my wife, here's an example of where he was trying to help somebody out and he was kicked out of the mall but luckily it would made the paper and this guy is also a writer and a local native newspaper. This man was eating food that he bought at the food court. He wasn't hanging around. He wasn't panhandling yet they treat him like crap! Respect your elders!

Like I said a year or so ago, you and your wife obviously run in different circles than my family, or I when I am home. When I do go back, I spend a lot of my time with the RCMP. Now, I remember very bad vibes by a number of them many years ago when we patrolled and interacted with First Nations people in Saskatchewan. It could get real ugly at times. In the last decade or so, I have seen the boys in the Red Serge change very dramatically. That may be a gauge you don't see, but then, I don't see yours either. We'll have to call this one a draw, maybe.
