I had a blind friend in college. I taught him how to drive a stick-shift. We drove around the parking lot but never went out on the road. After I taught him how to peel out, he told me it was trickier than landing a plane. Yeah, someone taught him how to do that.

Cynthia Croft - We were in college together for two years. I got to get reeeeally good at leading him around through a crowded cafeteria. I got so comfortable with him that I would occasionally forget he was blind. I mean, I never forgot the fact that he was blind, but something might be happening at the moment and it would slip my mind. For example, one time we went out to a Mexican restaurant. I couldn't quite remember how to get there, so at one intersection, I asked him, "Which way now?"

My friend actually did that! He echo-located himself in the center of hallways by making little clicks, and he could tell when he was coming to the end of the hall. Do you happen to know the name of the book your friend wrote? I bet it would be fascinating reading.
