Continuing the music portion of my Black History Month posts.....
Growing up in NY, there was not much for Country Music playing on the radio where I was from. As my taste in music grew wider (mainly due to my mother), I happen upon a country music station one day and grew to like it. I was absorbed by it's easiness and rhythm and though I did not listen to it as much as most other music, I made it a point to keep it in my musical palette.
Charlie Pride's Just between you and me, was the first Country Song I actually danced to and it happened at my first duty station in Germany when I was dating a beautiful green eyed country girl from SC I met when dragged to Country Night at the club on base. Besides temporarily stealing my young heart (lol), I actually became quite adept to dancing to Country Music and less shy to do so.
Country Music helped to bring out another part of me which in a way connected me with what we call the heartland or Country Life and having grown up where I did, the music transported me to the lifestyle in my mind and my soul. While not very large in my musical library, I still have plenty of it.
