She should get the surgery, she should be put in a women's prison, and she should rot there like the traitor she is.

I have to agree with CW3 Lindsey Muller, if the Military is going to cover gender reassignment surgery, then it should be earned. I know that many people don't think it should be covered at all, however, I do but under certain conditions such as a reenlistment bonus, or other instances like such, or after you have put it __ number of years. This is just me and my opinion, I would have been proud to be able to serve as the person I am and not having to hide and pretend to be something I wasn't, so surgery, paid for by the Military for transgender of any kind, is great and should be looked upon as a privilege and not a right. I do hope that surgeries start being covered, even if I am not able to take advantage of the opportunity.

SSG Jacey R. - Although I believe that Inmate Manning should get her surgery, I completely understand your position. In fact, I would say that rather than __ number of years served, it could incur __ number of future years, much like grad school. Now that the military is letting me serve as myself, and especially because they will cover my surgery, I am more than willing to serve 20+ years until they tell me I can't stay any longer.

LTJG (Join to see), you are correct that future years should count. That is what I was meaning by the reenlistment, but I should have included more, to cover officers and soon to be. I'm sorry for not including you or others like yourself. I do agree with you that she should rot in prison. I do believe that the surgery covered by the Military should be earned by some means, from past service, current service or future service. The only thing I have about future service, be reenlisting or other means is, I saw where a soldier reenlisted so he could get his eye surgery done, less than a year later he got his self kicked out. I think that if they took the money back for the cost in a case like that it would be different. To me, and just how I feel, we serve our country not the country serves us. I do think that some benefits do and should come with that service, we stepped forward to sign up when so many other either could not or would not, so yes there should be benefits and perks to go with that, but not to the extent that those privileges are abused.
