When I was TDY in Germany we didn't have any breakdowns on aircraft coming in from the states so I was tasked to assist the one AGE guy we had. I didn't so anything with the equipment other than dragging them around with the tractor, refuel them, and check oil. He took care of all the other AGE issues. So you don't necessarily have to be in a specific field to help with mission accomplishment.

There are many career fields where one could take over for another. My first career field Avionics Instruments was almost always a sister shop to Auto Pilot because of dual use of systems. I am sure there are many more that with little guidance could be combined.
