why would we hope for that? they're communists bent on removing the US from power. I hope they fail completely and the gap widens permanently!

I think the greatest threat would be the creation of a new training system for all inductees -- and career NCOs as well as officers -- that would put an emphasis on creative approaches to tactical problems. This, combined with a focus on small unit leadership similar to our squads and fire-teams, would force us to deal with a numerically superior force that would be painfully close in ability to our own well trained troops. At some point, we will undoubtedly engage with the PRC's ground forces again, as we did in Korea. Such an engagement will be costly regarding casualties should the PRC adopt a tactical, educational, and motivational regimen that models our own.
