That's a switch. About 2 years ago some were saying the US $ was in jeopardy of being replaced by the yuan as the international currency of choice. I didn't believe it then. Especially after seeing the huge complexes of similar multi-story buildings that were built and are empty. I don't remember the show - maybe VICE - but there is one that is like a mini-city and they have a handful of occupants. It made the boom and bust In Las Vegas look like a board game in terms of scale. This currency talk may have been a pump and dump scheme. They talk up or down a particular stock or instrument and are betting the opposite. People watch the stock climb and start buying. This forces the price higher. Meanwhile the market makers have shorted it and are just waiting for the high point to start dumping it. The small guys get wiped out and the big money makes a killing. Currency manipulation is more complex, but still happens. Each of the small drops or gains can represent tens of billions made or lost in one day.

As long as the Yuan is manipulated as it is it will NEVER be the international medium of exchange. But with the incredibly STUPID fiscal & monetary policies of the previous administration i don't see the US$ fulfilling that role much longer.

Sgt Wayne Wood - You've probably read more on it and I trust your judgement. I've been getting that feeling for awhile though, and not just that our World leadership is faltering financially. We can wave the flag and talk a good game with defense, but in many ways we have become almost mediocre in terms of actual leadership. Not the warriors and equipment, but the suits. We put up with a lot more crap from third world twerps than we used to. That needs to change and soon. If we draw a red line, crossing it must bear a high cost.

Yeah... shit happens when civilians have no skin in the game, i.e. No personal military experience, no family members in the military... probably don't even KNOW anyone military.

I think the total for GWOT military deaths is just shy of 7000. I have to wonder what % were not in any actual engagement. Folks hit with IEDs, hit in camps, or making various logistic runs etc. This all comes from not having any clear goal or mission. We've been at it since 911 - 16 years and the casualties have never stopped. I think "war for the sake of war" is going to be less popular under the new leadership. Military presence is not the same as military operations. One is for show and the other has a purpose with milestones and objectives.
