That place had a hundred years of the Brits, who, despite their royalist pretensions, at least have a genuine functional democracy, even with all their monarchist garbage, with which they imbued those on Hong Kong...the day they left, I'd seen the whole thing on the tube, watched the ChiCom's reaction, and knew, positively, that all this was gonna happen, before it ever did, the exact same way I'd known Tiannenmen Square was gonna happen...this is exactly what happened in the Soviet Union when Hungary and Czechoslovakia revolted, long before Lech Walesa, the Gdansk shipyard union, and Pope John Paul II managed to finally get the Russians out of Poland...the ChiComs won't win this, sooner or later, no many how many cell phones, cars, and refrigerators they keep trying to pacify the populace with, the way that dork Deng Xiao Peng planned on, they're inevitably gonna lose...it may take decades, it may take a century, whatever...the point, all Commie states fall, for the simple reason that, mathematically, they simply can't, and don't, survive, period...The Soviets didn't...the ChiComs won't either, count on it...then Taiwan, and the dream of Sun Yat Sen can finally be realized...they very nearly had a democracy the first time, that got derailed by decades of colonial oppression, due to international ignorance of what was really happening when the Manchu Dynasty finally fell...then the Japanese had to go in and quite literally vivisect the whole place apart in WW2, making it impossible for Chiang Kai Shek to stabilize it, both because Gen Stillwell kept calling him "Peanut" every 30 secs, even though Gen Chennault tried to stop him...plus, Chiang and Madame Chiang were corrupt on top of that...the only other true China is on Taiwan, and they'll NEVER give in, PERIOD...neither will Hong Kong...Hong Kong isn't Tibet, it's too integrated into the entire world economy, it CAN'T be shut down, the ChiComs try it, and they're gonna find that out PDQ...this has all been bound to have happened for decades, nothing could've prevented it...all I'm positive of is that, sooner or later, Mao, Chou, and Deng, are all gonna be relegated to the garbage dump of history, of that I'm absolutely sure....
