Definitely complicated since Xi is more militant the past leaders - that said, I still believe that China has more to lose than the US. Slightly higher consumer prices in the US might cause some grumbling, but it'll cause far more unrest in China when factories start shutting down and unemployed workers go hungry.

Slightly higher consumed prices? Where did you get that silliness from? The prices of raw materials have risen massively.
This is likely to cause large layoffs in US industries that use steel, Disadvantage to those that make finished good by paying higher prices that nation not overpaying for ram materials, and a LOT of bankrupt farmers in the Midwest Factories are at least as likely to be shutting down in the US than they are in China
The Chinese government does not care all that much about unrest, Folks acting or speaking out of unrest can be killed at will. Just like what happen in and after Tienanmen. That solves the problem from Xi's POV.
In the US those harmed can say what they please, and vote out the clowns that hurt them though
