Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on April 18, 1989 thousands of Chinese students continued to take to the streets in Beijing to protest government policies and issue a call for greater democracy in the communist People’s Republic of China (PRC). The protests grew until the Chinese government ruthlessly suppressed them in June during what came to be known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre.

I was stationed at Yokota AFB, Japan, when this happened. I, along with nearly every other lower enlisted on the base, was pressed into service putting up thousands of cots in aircraft hangars, because they expected to evacuate Americans from China through there. Didn't happen, of course.
