Great article. I have ,a Savage 24 that I got when i was 12. 22 over 20 gauge. Great squirrel gun.

CW5 Jack Cardwell I'd have to be really hungry before I considered "tree rat" as a meal. I do know a lot of folks that like it though.

I like the 45/410 option. that will take down almost anything in the lower 48. While I agree that there are lots of birds out there, if I am in survival mode I am not so sure I would use limited supply of ammo for a dove or quail that wouldn't even provide a meal, turkey, duck or goose maybe.

I've thought long and hard about it, and I feel a shotty would be fine if you're bugging in, but the size/weight of ammo would make nothing out with one less than ideal. If possible take everything, if on foot take a carbine.
