I'm probably going to be "dinged" or have this post removed for blatant advertising (although I am not employed by USAA)... My membership in USAA is, in my opinion, my greatest benefit of having served. I feel sorry for those who must trade with other commercial banks, insurance companies, etc. Unfortunately, USAA doesn't handle commercial/business accounts and I've had to deal with those others and universally had unfortunate experiences with all. The fact that they are helping their community, especially the military segment of it, doesn't surprise me in the least.

Not to be outdone by San Antonio, the City of Austin has recently achieved it's goal of identifying enough housing units that any veteran on the streets can move into housing within 90 days. It appears that a number of cities are beginning to do more to end veteran homelessness. The rental market in Austin is very high with average rents of all one and two bedroom apts running at $1037 & $1325/ month. It is unlikely the average SM could afford to live in a reasonable place here.

One of the major blights against our veterans is to allow so many to end up homeless. It is great to see groups coming together to help these fallen heroes.
