I am kind of mixed on this as I have not done enough reading and it seems complex. I do know this though, I recently got my check for a class action lawsuit taken out on Wells Fargo, and it was like 7 dollars. My wife also got one, again about 7 bucks. Wells Fargo is the largest home loan company in the US so they pretty much own everybody's house that is still paying on it. If you get behind a certain number of payments, I think 2, they contract people to go take a picture of your house to ensure it isn't crumbling, it still exists, and there doesn't seem to be an overall abandonment of the house, and then they charge a fee of I think 15 or 25 dollars to the customer. Like many Americans, we had a period of bad luck and you get behind, not so far that they start foreclosure, but enough they would send out this photo "service" and charge you for it. You are already get charged an high late fee. This tactic instigated a class action law suit and we got our little 14 dollars, but I am sure the lawyers took in millions, as is always the case. I am sure there were some other little odds and end to this specific lawsuit. Wells Fargo has a couple other lawsuits in progress now. It's always been the case that the lawyers make the brunt of the money and this new law seems to be trying to address this, but I haven't dug deep enough in to really understand all the aspects of it. People seem to be all up in arms about this law but in the end, the hurt customers never really see the reward of the multi million dollar lawsuits. Sure the big company takes a hit by paying out, but the consumer does not reap the rewards, the lawyers do. In my case, let's say I stayed behind on my house for 10 months or so until i recovered from whatever situation I was in. At $15.00 per transaction (and it may have been 25) I would have paid $150.00 for this photo service fee. The courts deemed this was an unacceptable act and Wells Fargo must pay it's customers, and my recovery was 7 bucks, far from the 150 I was charged.

I quit using both Wells-Fargo & Bank of America in 1995 because the screwed up my business accounts so badly (my accountants words, not mine)
Wouldn’t use either again on a bet. They are the MAJOR reason i only use Credit Unions now.
FWIW Navy Federal & USAA are excellent!
