According to the army times article, this is already being tested by 10th Mountain

This Army unit will be first to test an exoskeleton that lightens combat load
The long-awaited tech can reduce injuries and help troops move around the battlefield, developers say.

IMHO, no. It was developed to help those with mobility issues. But I am sure DARPA or some other funding stream said "hey we can make super GI Joes with this stuff!" We already carry too much crap, getting a lifting assist device and wait till you see what we will be carrying.

I weigh 230 pounds while I was in service - 17% body fat by immersion. I once carried my body weight for 6 hours. No fun. I can't see this as helping anyone carry more weight but it would certainly help with the soldier's normal loadout.

SFC Ralph E Kelley - Maybe making the standard kit manageable for longer distances but I agree that it shouldn't be a caveat to making the load HEAVIER!

I don't see why it couldn't be used. It would be expensive so I suspect it would be limited to those who really need it for their position.

At first I think it would be expensive but I've found things go down in price when mass-produced. I think I would like to test and eval myself before making a recommendation. I still remember the "man-portable" M47 Dragon Anti-Tank Guided Missile Launcher,.
provided you were a really big guy and someone else carried your other stuff.

SFC Ralph E Kelley - I would hope there would be a lot of test and eval done before commitment.

SFC Ralph E Kelley - "Man Portable" is a relative term! LOL
My son is a 240B gunner with the 101st ABD and I can see them getting these to test. He's a big guy but he could carry more ammo with this set-up.
