To help pay for a uniform and other clothing costs, service members may be given a clothing allowance if appropriate clothing is not furnished.
It is Department of Defense policy that the quantities and kinds of items of individual clothing to be furnished are prescribed by the respective Service Secretary or the Commandant of the Marine Corps under the parameters set by the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Force Management Policy).

interesting i know we got an extra allowance when we were instructors for cover the weekly haircuts and uniforms to the Gleaners and the extra pairs of Spit Shined boots

Glad I was in the Guards, the clothing allowance charts are messed up for the amount you get to replace clothing.

Everyone will probably go to a military clothing store, if they still have them, and buy the uniforms. If I remember, don't officers get a clothing allowance in their pay?

Yes an initial clothing allowance but after that the rest is up to the individual officer. The clothing allowance is $250 which buys you may be one set of fatigues

The reason I was wondering what was going to happen with the clothing allowance when all services are required to have the same uniform or that there are so many differences in the dress uniform between the services. The current mandate only covers the combat uniform and says nothing about the dress uniform

Personally, I think we should have one combat uniform. As for the dress uniforms, I think it should still stay separate for each branch...a heritage thing MAJ (Join to see)
