Well, in all fairness, we would have to update SOOOOOOOOOOOO Many checklists, to make sure we turned it on and off appropriately. Since, the CNO just mandated protected sleep time, I am not sure when they would have the time to fix them... Ok, sarcasm aside, this should have been done long ago. We don't really understand how much MM relies on AIS, and we should play well in the pond (well, at least better than we have). Frankly, I think it was just that our default position will always be OPSEC, even though it really doesn't hold water! (Oh I crack myself up today, don't worry I'll be here all week...) Have a great weekend!

LT Brad McInnis As you know, AIS directly corresponds with an aircraft's transponder. Functionally it does precisely the same thing. (Laying that out there for readers who don't know that). This is both why it should be turned off for OPSEC when not in high traffic areas AND why it should be turned on in those areas.
